Hey everybody, I seem to have a difficult time keeping Torch corals alive. I have several Hammer and frogspawns that are thriving along with Zoas, Polys, Duncans, GSP, toadstools and mushrooms. My parameters are as follows: Ph -8.0
Ammonia- 0
Nitrate - 0
Cal - 3.80
Alk - 9.2
Phos - .06
Mag - 1330
Salinity - 1.024
I do water changes every other week, I do not have a sump, I use a Cannister and have a HOB reef Octopus skimmer. I have tried several different placements. Any ideas as to why I am having a problem with Torches?

Flow? Where is your placement? Is it getting stung by the hammers?
Light to medium flow, floor of the tank, plenty of room around it. I was under the impression that Torches, Hammers and Frogspawn were in the same family and could be together?

They take a while to adjust, so moving it around a bunch probably isn't helping much. I got a gold torch from MACNA that looked like it was going to die but based on the recommendations of others I put it in spot with medium light and medium flow and just left it alone. It took 2-3 weeks but it finally got adjusted and now looks like this:.

You need some nitrates and phosphates, don't completely strip the water of these, I keep mine in medium to high flow and you have to have good strong lighting, I have the same setup as you , I have a reef octopus 1000 and a canister filter that is filled with live rock and matrix, I took all the sponges out , I use nopox and I clean the canister filter every other week of detritus, the only thing I have different is my so called "sump" I use the emperor power filter as mine , I put the return of my canister in the power filter and that drains back into the tank, the emopor is filled with marine pure on one side and the other is filled with phosgaurd. Everything is going great I can even grow sps with my method ,everything is happy.
Good Luck ,Happy Reefing!

Thanks to all for your replies. Anybody else that has some input is welcomed.

Not exactly torches will sting any other surronding corals, just move him to his own area and you should be good ;)
