Torch coral peeling flesh

Hey what’s up.
I got this Indo Gold Torch last week and everything looked good until now.
It was under the same flow and lighting as a Hammer and Grape coral.
Params are:
SG - 1.025 (Refractometer)
PH - approx 8.2 (API)
Calcium - 425 (Hanna)
dkh- 7.7 (Hanna)
Nitrate - undetectable (API)
Ammonia - undetectable (API)
Phosphate - less than .25 (API)
Magnesium - no test kit
I have sexy shrimp living under a hammer coral, Sumburst Anthias, Neon Goby, and common CUC everyone has in a reef tank.
Here is a photo:

No brown jelly visible. Just looks like a very unhappy torch with peeling flesh.
Never had luck with torches anyways.

It looks like tissue recession. Could be multiple reasons why. Torches can be difficult.

Yep I tried multiple kinds from different sellers, different geographic location in where it was harvested from, marinecultured/aquaculture.
No luck on any. I placed the current torch in lower light, lower flow, cross fingers and hope for the best.

Never had luck with them either. Grew many types of euphyllia but the elusive torch always got me. We even kept an elegance longer than a gold torch, go figure right.

Ayyee I’m not the only one lol. Guess I’ll just stick with hammers and what not and move torches into my “do no buy” list. I’ll keep this thread updated each day and see what’s up.

If anything maybe try an iodine based dip like seachem reef dip if it progresses. Keep an eye out for brown jelly. We had a torch develop that nasty stuff and spread fast. Look forward to the updates.

I have a torch and it is happy, have had alot of luck with them. It may be dying due to lack of nutrients. My tank has low nutrients but not undetectable. I don't like nitrate API test, just an opinion. Even if you feed it I feel like it still needs a little bit of nutirents in the water to keep them going. Also a little bit higher flow not to bad for them

I found my torches like to be slightly higher and with more flow than my other euphyllias

Thank you for the advice. I saw some brown jelly stuff starting so I put it in a different container with it’s own water for now. I’m gonna dip it in Hydrogen Peroxide with some water and see if that helps.

I’m pretty sure my tank isn’t too clean. I feed the tank 2 - 3 times a day along with a Fat Head dendro munchin on stuff all day lol. I’m slowly transitioning my test kits to Hanna and Red Sea.

Haha yea I saw this crazy video of torches in the ocean and I’m surprised their flesh isn’t getting blasted off!

I found iodine has never done me good for fighting brown jelly, but I think your perzoxide dip will! I had a Galaxy coral that got brown jelly from damage and I dipped it in peroxide and he made it! It's hard to bring corals back but I wish you the best of luck!

Thank you for the kind and encouraging words but I was going to do a peroxide dip this morning but within 6 hours the whole torch is gone. I only see brown jelly on the bottom of the container and a dead coral skeleton.
Heh it was a good try anyways and I will NEVER try torches again.

I was hoping to add to this old post, my dragon soul is starting to loose his flesh. And was hoping someone had an idea of what i could do to help him

Yeah I would tell you the same thing. Torches easily get infections. 50/50 peroxide dip for a minute seems to be the most effective way to combat it. I also soak my corals in antibiotics after the peroxide dip as I feel like my corals are more likely to recover when I do this. Good luck

Yeah I’d do it sooner than later. If you can I’d get some tonight. With these infections sometimes they won’t make the night. Especially if brown jelly forms it will be gone in hours

Just got back with a bottle! 50/50 then dipping for a minute. I couldn't let it go and or i wouldn't sleep tonight.
