Hi everyone, I got a nice 2 headed torch coral delivered today which has a nice 2.5" skeletal base. Can I just place this entire base into a hole in my rocks or does the entire stock need to be exposed to get light? It fits perfectly in the hole just like a frag plug would be then its base is 3/4 covered by the rock......thanks

3/4 covered is probably fine. There is usually some tissue around the top outside of the skeleton. As long as that is exposed it should be fine. They do like decent flow so don't put it too far into the rock if it impacts flow or detritus buildup where it might come into contact with the flesh.

Ok thanks, kid of surprised how long the stock is and if I try and glue it upright on the exterior of the rock it may not be to stable. The heads at the top are fully exposed though just the stock is down in the hole.

Personally I wouldn't do it. One of my frogspawn sprouts new branches from the stalk. Pretty far down too.

Yea I think the stock is to deep in the hole. I moved it to a temporary spot but will have to glue it on top of the exterior of a rock and hope it stays upright.

When you glue it, I strongly suggest doing the superglue, epoxy putty, superglue sandwich method. I also added another ring of epoxy putty around the base and rock just to make sure it's secure as it grows.

I used a generous portion of CG superglue. Will see if it dries before a snail hits it.

Don't most corals eventually encrust themselves to the rock or coraline algae encrusts over their skeleton to adhere them?
