I am new to owning a torch coral. Doesn’t this look healthy? Added him a little Less than a week ago and doesn’t look as open as he did in the lfs.

A) what are your water parameters?

B) how strong is the lighting where its at?

C) how strong is the flow where its at? Too strong a flow can aggravate the coral, which is probably already stressed due to moving from where it used to be in the LFS to a new system.

D) have you noticed any brown jelly like substance? If so it has brown jelly disease.

I would say something is wrong with your water. Here is a 2 head indo I bought from my lfs over the weekend, Not even an hour after being In my tank and it’s fully extended and hasn’t retracted yet, even at night it stays open. They like flow so I would move it to a place with more indirect flow and see how it reacts. Also, is your light maybe too bright for it? Could also be the case.

Parameters are where they should be. I dont know about lighting. I have an ai prime at 50% intensity. My tank is a 40 gallon nuvo is high is 18 inches tall and light is another 10 inches off water.

might want to expand on the parameters "Parameters are where they should be " does not help us help you pinpoint what might be wrong

Can you give us specific numbers for the parameters? Hope all goes well

I eould say ever since I placed it I always thought it was a high flow spot. But not super high

Also did a reef roids dose last night which boosted my nitrates to 10 ppm. I have a refugium running though

Seems like you have some bubbles on your rock work. Can you post a pic with the day lights on only, no blues?

Try moving it in the light. From the pic it looks like its shaded by something

Just Like how he said^ High flow can really get these guys to retract back, make sure they get indirect flow.
