torch is about 4 days old in the tank. Standard acclimation floating and slowly adding some tank water in a dish. Started on the sand bed 2 days, was stinging by Acan so moved up top. Running AP9X at 55% max ramp up for an hour,”. Red Sea Reefer 250

I started dosing magnesium last night, as level was way too low (1240). Only added 30 ml of solution as reccomended by brightwell Mag-P. Is the magnesium solution causing this?? Started closing a bit 20 min before lights out last night, was open this am, Now closing again? Thoughts?

1.025, 2-5, 0.05, 460, 8, 1250, 8.4, 77 deg

I put the light back in acclimation mode, hopefully this helps but I assume it was adding the mag too fast?? Anyone else had this issue with mag? Thought it was harmless???

Torches are sensitive to change. It’s been through a lot in the past 4 days trying to get used to your tank, then moving it, then increasing Mag, then changing your lights, etc. Your other torch looks fine so just leave things be to give your new torch a chance to finish acclimating to your tank. If it still looks unhappy after a few days you could try giving it an iodine dip.

Thank you so much

Doubtful it's the Mg. More likely the change from moving it, perhaps the lighting change and other not so easily seen changes like flow, plus as SaltyT mentions it is still adjusting to your water parameters. 4 day old torch I would also keep a close eye out for BJD.

My hammer and Duncan both hated when added magnesium quickly so it could be the case. the rule on the package was no more than 50ppm a day. When added 10 both looked like the child first bit into lemon.
When I started dosing it a bit higher than the consumption they bit could cope with the change. It took me almost a month this way but the corals remained happy(er)

Yeah, I’m going to wait until TUE/Wed and SLOWLY start adding more MAG (no more Brightwell-bought Red Sea) while my light is still in acclimation and try and confirm it was the mag
