Torch in Quarantine Retracting After 8 hours

I have two torch's that have been in quarantine for the past 6 days that are retracting after the lights have been on for 8-8.5hrs. I mean you can set your watch to the time they start to retract. Called my LFS just out of curiosity to find out their light schedule and they have there frag tank lights on for 8hrs. 11am to 7pm. My light schedule is 7am to 6pm. The torches are fully expanded at around 8am and start to retract at 3pm then start to expand again around 5pm then when the lights go out at 7pm they will retract until the lights come back on in the morning. Is it possible that the torches got used to the LFS's light schedule and they are just reacting to that schedule? They look healthy and full when extended for 8hrs. Never saw this reaction with other corals I have quarantined for the past year. These are my first torches so I have nothing to compare this behavior to. Any info would be appreciated.

to be honest, i dont have a lot of experience with torches specifically, however ive kept a lot of euphyllia. from what ive seen, sometimes they create their own schedule from when they want to retract, not sure why or how to change that but id guess its good as consistency is key. often, my hammers and frogspawn will close an hour or so before my lights go out, and some of my other LPS will shrink. i run a long schedule, 10am-10pm.

Torch experts, any thoughts on this?

I'm not an expert but I've had torches and hammers with similar behavior. As lights dim they get smaller. Lights out and they're fully retracted. An hour later they're at half mast then again the next day. It's been that way with most torches over the years. As long as they spend a good part of the day open and healthy they'll adapt.

im assuming that theres no problems with youre system ie no external factors like lights, foods, contaminants, cleaning your algae, and such.

With my experience with keeping torches.

Same phenomenon does happen to me at the tail end of the light schedule.

Now my observations are that when they retract either they are expelling zooxanthellae or a beggining of the long process of splitting heads.

As long as they are open and healthy the next day then its normal.

Thanks to all that replied. Sounds to me this is not an abnormal behavior. Torches in quarantine look good during the 8hr period they are extended. Photos are 1/2hr after lights come on so not fully extended yet.
