My torch rarely ever opens when my water is just fine. I checked the par and its about 115. Could this be why it rarely opens?

Temp:77-78I doubt it. What is "fine" water? List parameters and test kits. Also, what kind of flow is it getting
Temp:77-78
Salinity:1.025
Nitrates:2ppm
Nitrite:0ppm
Ammonia:0pp
Calcium:420ppm
PH:8.2
Magnesium and phosphate are untestable. I have api master test kit.
Flow is medium to high. Wavemakers set to random flow patterns
Yes i meant it wasnt testable, i cant test it sorry. I forgot about alk, im new so i forget easily but its 10. Ill order some stuff to dose nitrates and whatnot along with testing kits. Is magnesium a must to?API Phosphate test is useless if you meant it is unreadable as the recommended range is 0.03-0.1ppm which is unreadable by API's test. Or did you mean you don't have a way to test phosphate? If you don't, you need it. Also what about alk?
That nitrate could be a 0 depending on the error range of the test kit. Consider dosing aminos.
Tanks 12 years old. Just started coral so ive never really gotten into all the elements deeply and par. Ill take pictures tmr. Its midnight right now.Pics of your tank would help. How long has it been running? It’s possible that the tank is too new
I also forgot to point out that theres a crap ton of red sharp pointy things sticking out the skeleton of the torch. Pretty sure its called formenifara or something like that but not sure if its bad.I agree with @Spare time above. Torches like 150 to 250 par and low moderate swaying flow. Along with goid levels of nitrates and phosphate.
Also since i dont know what exactly constitutes low/medium/high flow, heres just a video of it.I agree with @Spare time above. Torches like 150 to 250 par and low moderate swaying flow. Along with goid levels of nitrates and phosphate.
Looks to be slightly to hard to meAlso since i dont know what exactly constitutes low/medium/high flow, heres just a video of it.
I have seen those on some corals in frag tanks but not sure what they are or how they affect coral.I also forgot to point out that theres a crap ton of red sharp pointy things sticking out the skeleton of the torch. Pretty sure its called formenifara or something like that but not sure if its bad.
Here is a video of mine and this is at max flow for my setting. My MP40s run only at 26% during the day and 20% overnight. Also since i dont know what exactly constitutes low/medium/high flow, heres just a video of it.
Alright ill tune it down a little, about a week ago though i had it at a different spot of the tank with that kind of flow but it was still closed all day long. It only opened up rarely. Im also having a algea problem so my nitrates could possibly be messed up.Here is a video of mine and this is at max flow for my setting. My MP40s run only at 26% during the day and 20% overnight.
Well nitrates are important for euphyllia and all corals or they starve. 10 to 20 is where mine are consistently typically 15 but drop some on water changes.Alright ill tune it down a little, about a week ago though i had it at a different spot of the tank with that kind of flow but it was still closed all day long. Yeah i need to dose neonitro but because im dealing with hair algea itll only make it worse so im kinda lost as to what to do. I cleaned around 80% of all the algea but i feel like if i dose nitrates the algea will all come backWell nitrates are important for euphyllia and all corals or they starve. 10 to 20 is where mine are consistently typically 15 but drop some on water changes.
I had a GHA jungle early on but I still kept my nutrients levels up to support my coral health and biome. Weekly water changes with lots of manual removal daily. Diverse cleaner crew with urchins and turbos. Cut lights to 6 hours for couple weeks with blue and uv only no whites. Raise magnesium to 1500 which turns GHA white and makes it easy to remove. Add PNS probio weekly to the tank. This is a natural heterotrophic bacteria that eliminates organic waste and feeds corals.Yeah i need to dose neonitro but because im dealing with hair algea itll only make it worse so im kinda lost as to what to do.
