Torch Show Off Thread!

Did you ever figure out what was bothering your other torches?

I think it is the increased lighting. I moved the Dragon Tamer to lower lighting and it has begun to extend again. The Indo Gold is still in the same spot and still pretty retracted. Weird that only these two torches would respond to the lighting like this. To me, it looks as though all the other pieces are fuller and healthier after the addition of the T5.

There is a couple different types of aussie "gold" torches. I have had 2 of them. The teal tip looks more like what your describing, the ultra which is the known melter is gold tentacle with blue tips and stubby. I have seen ultras without all gold tentacles but rather have gold striations which I had one for 4 months and poof in 3 days it was gone. I have spoken to at least 7 different people who sell corals for a living and they all knew about issues with aussie golds melting and most of them stayed away from buying any. There's also a longer tentacle Aussie gold that is real nice looking I have seen them with a purplish tip, could be lights affecting tip color, to blue tip. I know lights play a big role in how a camera picks up the colors in a torches tips. The first picture is the Aussie gold melter second is a 5 very large headed colony of golds. They were in the tank together. No other coral died when the gold melted and I have no known or provable reason as to why it did melt.

I have the same aussie gold, blue tip and stubby tentacles, about a year ago is started to melt on me. It was a 2 1/2 heaf torch. I took dioped it in iodine and thankfully the melting stopped. I managed to save 1 1/2 heads. 1 year later ots goi g strong hasnt split or anything, still hanging in there.

I have never seen a truly "red" torch. That one kinda looks like it is actually what I would call a purple tentacle/lavender tip torch. Pretty common really, but they do look cool. Some have "snakeskin" appearance on the tentacle like this one.

Here’s my unnamed Indo rainbow torch I got for 50 bucks a couple of yrs ago from my lfs. Pretty slow grower, started as 1 small head and now I think has 5 or 6. Pic in blues and daylight
