Hey everyone. So the back story. Bought this torch back in November. It was part of a branching torch. My lfs broke off a frag for me. The length was like 4”. When I got home It down so that it’s 1.5” long of skeleton. It’s been doing just fine. However slowly the skeleton has been withering away. All my other corals in this frag tank are doing amazing. Did I hurt it by cutting too much calcium alway??
params
1.025 79g
Cal 480
Alk 9
Ph 8.0
Nitrates 2ppm
No nitrate or ammonia

So the calcium bicarbonate skeleton has been slowly disintegrating since you cut it some more? Is that what you're saying?

Otherwise it’s beautiful and my families fav. I have a feeling this will end up bad.

Someone on a local forum said he was disgusted that I was torchering my coral and that the algae is disgusting. Yes there is a tad of algae on the frag rack. It’s a coral qt tank and these corals will go into the main display when the time is right. The water and parameters are great. If I made a mistake with this coral I’m sorry

That doesn’t sound right. The coral doesn’t really need much of the skeleton at all. I’ve had more than that cut off on pretty well all my corals. Do you have comparison pictures to be sure that it’s happening? And I would probably stay away from that forum if I were you. You definitely aren’t torturing the coral, and whether people like it or not, algae is natural and supposed to be in marine environments.

Thank you so much. I appreciate it. The skeleton was pretty large on the cluster at the lfs. Very good lfs. Actually. Top notch. Coral reef shop in Burlington onTario. Anyways the actual polyp is doing awesome. Has gotten larger. East well just looks great but the Skeleton has gotten fragile? At 9dkh and 480 calcium. I’m not sure I have Blastos in this tank with the same length and thickness of Skelton and look amazing. It’s new to me for sure I had a hammer earlier this year. No skeleton recession I have sps in this frag tank growing like weeks so I’m not sure. Light is ai prime 16hd
