Torch splitting or unhappy.

Wondering if you can tell me weather this is splitting or just unhappy. This is towards the end of the day and lights out in a couple hours.

Nitrate at 8
Phosphate 0.7
Calcium 440
Mag 1400
Alkalinity

Everything has been stable and has for some time.

Also it was a single head and looks like it potentially could be 3, no skeleton just a bit of flesh in the middle. And it's a 24k torch. Seen it poop a couple times over last few weeks.

Any recession on the flesh?

Most of my torches close up at night and when they are splitting.

It looks like you have a little outbreak of sorts on the sand.

Possibly dinos or cyno.

No recession on the flesh or signs of skeleton showing.

Yeah think is a little bit of cyano, reasonably new tank 3 months. All corals were transferred from smaller tank to this larger one.

Going through the uglies again

I wouldn't worry too much unless it starts receedding or losing color.

Yeah sorry 0.07 I meant it's night time so most corals have receded. But during the day is out about double of what the picture shows

This is healthy euphyllia, The Flesh stretches away beyond the head itself. Yours does not look like in the picture but is it?
If your tank is only 3 months all that's kind of young, make sure all your parameters are stable.

As mentioned in my first post everything is stable and has been for 3 months since set up. All corals were in my 2ft for 12 months and then transferred to the new 4 ft tank.

Under coral it looks like your picture nice and plump.

Best way to tell if your torch is splitting or if it’s sick is in the number of mouths. If it had one mouth and now it has three, it’s splitting. If it had one mouth and it still has one mouth, that may be a problem.

OP I see 2 different things in the pic. 1 on each torch.

The 1st torch you asked about seems to have been cut really badly. Extremely close to the head and looks like that's why it could be unhappy. It show 0 signs of recession which is good but that cut job is terrible and leaves the head open for bacteria. Without seeing right up next to the skeleton it really looks like they cut a tiny part of the head when fragging. I circled that area in red.

The 2nd torch your green one, is actually receding. I drew the bottom line to show where the tissue was and the top line shows where it is now. In between the lines you can see the recession.

Double look on the pics without the red.

Considering this tank is only 3 months old I'd say you're also dealing with a bit of an ugly phase trying to happen.

Although cycled the tank is still changing.

bringing the corals from an older tank and putting them into the new tank also probably threw them off a bit.

Keep an eye on nutrients and keep up on the water changes.

Thanks, the 24ktorch has been fine for last 4 months this is only recently happened. As for the pink tip green stem torch it's only 24hours old in this tank, was recently purchased so still adjusting. I'll take another photo mid day to show the extension they both have.
