So I woke up today to my torch having two mouths. There is no visible pinching in the skeleton indicating splitting yet. Is it a sign of the coral starting to split?

this is what I mean by skeleton pinching:

Splitting...CONGRATS;)

It's definitely splitting in the second picture, they form a second mouth before they split at the skeleton.
oh sorry for the confusion the second image is not mine its a image I found on the internet to explain what I meant by the term pinching.
with that being said do you still think that its splitting?

Usually two mouths is the first sign of splitting, that’s shortly followed by pinching. Keep watching the base of the torch and you will probably start to see the splitting in the skeleton.

Curious to know, how did split end up? how long did it take from 2nd mouth to pitching?

Cheers.

Hey! Unfortunately this piece didn’t make it through the splitting stage. It died a month after this post. I don’t quite remember if there was a particular cause of death. My other pieces take about a month and a half to get a full split from first observing new mouths.

Sorry to hear about that.

My torch got a new mouth today so I was researching the topic, I'm excited to see what's next for my coral.

Did you hold your torch in sand or rock?

It was attached to my lower part of my rock work.

I agree with everyone, your coral is starting to split. How long it takes depends on the coral and your tanks parameters. I’ve had torches that went from a single head single mouth to two separated heads in 4-5 months, but I have another torch that’s been on 4 pinching heads for about 3-4 years now, and same tank too, with only a 50-60 par difference between the two.
