New to the LPS game and noticed that the first torch I got has started splitting into separate heads.

I have only had it for about a month, and it has obviously been doing well.

The reason I bring it up is because I had someone tell me this kind normally grows slowly.

I am in no rush to frag anything, but I am just curious how long it might take for the new head to become calcified. I am just curious if I need to start getting stuff to frag if it is going to grow a lot faster than I though.

I know it is kind of a first world problems situation but I just wasn't expecting it to grow so quickly

Added a couple of before, and after pictures for reference.

Lucky. I am going on 10 months for one hammer, 9.5 months for a frogspawn, and 9 months for another hammer...and nothing. No growth. They are fat and happy (until a fish swims by and touches them, of course). But no new heads. Even my two 3 month old acros are growing out, but no. Not my euphyllias.

I dunno, once they are happy in your tank torches seem like faster growers to me. I think it’s normal for heads to completely split every 3 months.
That would be awesome for sure!

Someone told me "I don't want to turn you off of it, but it will probably be two years before your first frag for that." And I don't care if it does, but it is good to know an approximate time line lol.

I guess I will just keep an eye on it and look into the fragging process soon.

Yeah I’ll normally see a 2nd or third mouth develop and then it takes 3-4 months to grow skeleton and split.

Stable alk and Ca is very important for these guys(like most corals) if you get a Alk drop or spike they will get mad and it’s like hitting the reset button on growth.

Yeah I am keeping track of those because I want to get in the habit because I would like to get one sps of some kind in the tank as well. Currently everything is stable with just water changes from what I can tell. I only have the two torches and some mushrooms (that are also growing like crazy) so the torches are the only thing using those up right now.
