So my 190 DT has a small sump, 33 long with baffles about 6in tall, so I'm getting a whopping 20g or so in the sump.

I bought some Rubbermaid bins this week and built myself a modular sump. Two chambers, connected by 3 one inch pipe with unions so I could take it apart for cleaning. Was going to have a total water volume of about 35-40 gallons.

I drained my sump, got all the water, rock, and equipment out. And then it hits me.... I put the sump in from the top of the stand before the display went on!! I couldn't get the sump out of the stand, even took the doors off.

Wasted a couple hours of my day, but did clean the sump and equipment.

haha. so not a total waste. so if the skimmer breaks you have to replace it, you’re screwed?

I can get the skimmer and equipment out of the sump no problems. But the only way I'm going to be able to remove the sump is by breaking it.

I was doing this while my son was napping so I was pressed for time. The wife want feeling good so if I want done by the time he woke up I wouldn't hear the end of it. I got everything back in and did a water change at the same time.

I'm still planning on replacing the sump. I'll just have to do it on a day where my wife takes or son somewhere. I don't want to break glass with him in the house.

My stand for my 75 is one of those cheapo black ones. I had to rip out the center brace on top to put the sump in....it allows for JUST enough access for me to be able to replace any component....but I have to pretzel myself to service any part of it. Kinda regretting it...but it's what I had to work with lol.

No worries friend Your not the 1st to do something like this. Like have a new barrel of water there waiting to go into my sump. I go to drain the old water & pump all the new right down the drain.
No new water & an empty sump. Well in goes the old nasty water.
