So I know that you should make sure that you don’t touch a bristle worm with your bare hands, but why is that. Is it because they are venomous or do they have sharp spines that get in your skin and irate you??

They have sharp spines the irritate your skin. Very difficult to remove

Thanks, I almost always wear some sort of gloves when doing anything but was curious on what they actually did to you

I've heard the pain is like fiberglass splinters. I've had a few in my old job and they are not fun the pain lasts for days it's a burning itching feel it makes you go crazy I hope to never get fiberglass splinters again

I must be lucky I've touched a few of them with no issue. I do work with my hands all the time that may help

Definitely like fiberglass. I grabbed a rock and my finger tip must have squished one, could see the little spines sticking out. Yes it itched and burned a bit.
I have touched them many times before and never got stuck. But never accidently squished one.
