Been hearing a LOT of snapping coming from the tank. Guessing a Pistol. During my search for him I came across this. It kind of looks like the tail of a shrimp but I am uncertain. It has been in this hole for some time. It does move back deeper in the hole when light hits it straight on. Any ideas?? Picture is the best I can get so may not be possible to figure it out, but worth a shot I suppose.

About the best I can get with the way he is in the hole the camera keeps focus more to the edge of the hole (and I am not good enough to manual in on him.. lol)

I was able to see it's underside a little more but couldn't get a better picture. It is definitely the tail of a shrimp. Just not sure what kind.

That’s the tail of a mantis shrimp. No good- you want it out of your tank. Will kill all shrimp and snails and continue the havoc. If you can get a fish trap... place a piece of shrimp in the trap and watch for it to enter then close the door and walk it to the toilet- seriously

He did leave the hole tonight. Have not yet seen anything but the tail but I suspect you are right. It is not the source of the clicking sound for sure.

Thinking this is the culprit who's butt is pictured above.. Thoughts??

But saw this scurrying across the rock last night. Was not able to get an actual picture of it in the tank but seems to fit the tail pic a little better and the lower portion that looked like the lower portion of a shrimp would fit as well.

Hearing “clicking” would be a dead giveaway for a mantis shrimp. The pic above does look pretty similar.

I don’t have a mantis. But I’ve read that they do make clicking sounds.
