Not so much that they are toxic, but if mishandled can cause polytoxins. This doesnt just happen merely because you handled Palythoa coral. It is more of a sanitary issue in which these corals are handled without proper protection for skin and eyes which are safety glasses and vinyl gloves.
What you should know is that if you come into contact with toxins, you will have burning sensation to the area affected. What can the toxins do if ignored?
  • Capable of damaging every cell in your body
  • Can cause tissue damage, a decrease in respiratory function, coma or death
This is the worse case scenario and not an invitation to reach for the panic button. It is rare we hear about this, it is never on media and if it comforts you, some aerosols contain polytoxins. Assume theyre all toxic. . . When mishandled.

Who knows?? Don’t boil them or cut them and touch your eyes. Hopefully we never know. I have been (stupidly) cutting zoas for months without any PPE and have suffered no ill effects. You may be one of those people that has a bad reaction to it though so I’d definitely recommend at least gloves and a mask. :) last think you want is to be fragging them, cut yourself, get Zoa juice in the cut, and have an allergic reaction

If you have a cut on your hands you should not be handling them without gloves. Different people react differently to different things in our tanks. I know myself my hands will get very swollen and a lot of pain if I were to touch one with a cut on my finger.
