Randy,

Some time ago I read an article you wrote about ozone use in our reefs. If I remember correctly ozone dosing requires a follow up of more activated carbon use than what is usually required to adsorb a toxin coming from a reaction of an oxygen ion with something in saltwater. What is this toxin and how do we test for it?

Just wondering if using it to remove c02 which in turn causes a higher concentration of clean 02 would have any side effects. Kinda like with the use of ozone

Randy, in the articles above, you mentioned to provide more commentary on this subject "next month," can you provide a link to this?

The three articles above were published on 3 consecutive months in 2006. So that "next month comment in means the second or third article. :)

The only update I have is that I've stopped using ozone and the type of GAC I was using then. A few years after setting up ozone on the tank described in the article above, I decided to stop ozone out of concern over HLLE-like issues in two tangs.

While I also changed GAC brands (for the same reason; switched from Marineland Black Diamond to BRS ROX 0.8 ) and cannot be sure which did the trick, and the tang I have now is a different one, the HLLE disappeared. So I no longer run ozone 24/7. Once every few months I run it overnight at a low dose to clear the water, and then shut it back down again.

No, I do not believe that removing CO2 would have any of the effects that ozone has. It also doesn't change the O2 concentration noticeably. O2 is about 20.95% of normal air and CO2 is only 350 ppm. So removing the CO2 completely weill only boost O2 to 20.97%.
