Hi all, I have a question that does the Carbon ractor filter out trace elements (redsea abcd)?

As far as I know it does not. I run carbon on my tank 24/7 and do weekly water changes and have no reason to believe that I have to dose trace elements. If you keep up on your water changes you shouldnt have to dose trace. In fact I was dosing ( and not testing) and I have reason to believe that It was contributing to an algae outbreak

I am after the Triton method which minimize water change. Which trace element did u dose?

This is a more complex question than you might think. It is not likely that the GAC is binding important amounts of trace elements directly from seawater, although it probably binds some, but many trace metals are bound to organic matter, and that organic matter can, in turn, bind to GAC.

A better way to think about it is GAC likely to be a primary way that trace elements are depleted in a reef tank, and I expect the answer to that is no, other pathways (uptake by organisms, skimming, and precipitation) are likely to be bigger export methods.

Almost every process we do has pros and cons, and trace element export by any means, including GAC, can be a pro and a con at the same time, depending on whether you have excess of that element (in which case it is a benefit), or a deficit of it (in which case it is undesirable).

Almost certainly you want a way to export organics and keep the water from yellowing and/or accumulating toxins. GAC is a good way to do that, and that aspect likely outweighs the potential drawbacks which can include some trace element export.
