Ok, i am a bit at loss. I have been using a bacterial supplement that has considerably eased my maintenance routine, including (thanks!!!) water change. Then i am reading everywhere that i need water change to replenish trace elements. I am looking everywhere to find information on which water would have these precious trace elements, can't find any. I sampled my water for the basics and took it to my buddy at UCSF, nothing to worry about he says. My brain can't seem to connect the dots here, can someone help me understand why i need to change water if all my levels are fine?

Trace elements are found naturally in the ocean. In an aquarium, these trace elements are used up by all the creatures...corals, inverts, etc. All salt mixes contain these trace elements naturally found in the ocean. When you do water changes, it helps replenish them. There are supplements on the market that say they replenish them. However, I've never used any of them. IMO, water changes are them best way to replenish them. Some people perform water changes once a week, once a month, or more. It really depends on your system. For me personally, I do at least 1 if not 2 water changes every week and usually 5 gallons at a time. I've found that this works the best for my system.

Thanks for your answer. Why would water (Tap or RO or what else?) would do that when they do not contain these trace elements is the question i am asking.

Yes, that would make sense if i needed my TE needed to be replenished. But does not seem like it, and it's been 8 months ...
