I received a gorgeous rainbow Trachy on Wednesday. It had a bit of a rough shipment and arrived in cold water with skeleton showing in a few places. It has perked up quite a bit in the last few days but one area of skeleton remains and today I noticed algae growing on it. What do I do about this?

Admittedly, I am freaking out a bit because it was quite expensive and a huge splurge for me. Any suggestions are appreciated!

Sorry about your trachy.. did you contact seller? That’s pretty rough shape and arriving cold is unacceptable. Do you have hair algae in your display? That pretty quick for it to take root on that skeleton.. unfortunately it’s really difficult to remove algae like that without further damaging coral and if it’s left unchecked it will aggravate it even more.

you can try using something like dental instruments (small metal pick) to carefully scrape away alga, continually rinse with tank water as your doing it.

Try scraping it away with a dental instrument (small metal pick) continually rinse with tank water as your doing it. if your tank is algae free it may not come back and coral would maybe have a chance to heal.
