I have two Trachyphillias in the front of my Red Sea E 170, a yellow and a green. In between them is a Button Scolymia. I’ve had both for around 9 months. Both were good eaters, and the yellow was lately extending out to about 5 inches across over the course of the day. The green is 4 inches across, much bulkier, and has 3 mouths. For the last 10 days or so, the yellow has been fully contracted to 1 1/2 inches across, and over those 10 days had not put out its tentacles to feed. The green one would historically fully blossom out every third or fourth day, and historically they were feed at night every third day. The green now has its tentacles out all the time, though I had moved feeding, with Reef Roids and Mysis shrimp to every fourth day. The green feeds well, the yellow not at all. Parameters are stable, circulation good with an M10 9 inches above them and blowing across the front of the tank. All other corals and the fish are doing fine, the fish being feed twice a day. Ideas?

9 months is definitely plenty of time.

Have you checked your iodine levels?

What is your wc schedule?

Do you run a refugium?

So after 10+ days of being closed up and unresponsive to food, the yellow Trach opened halfway up, put out tentacles, and took in Reef Chili and Mysis shrimp. That was last night at 11 pm. At the same time a baby Brittle Star crawled out from under the Button Scoly and feed on the shrimp. There is an adult BS that lives in a cave, but where this young one came from I have no idea. Do they decide to feed right before a morning rain? This little ecosystem is full of mysteries, an intensive care unit with daily surprises.

The computer changed BS, short for Brittle Star, to “crap.” Sorry.

The brittle could be annoying it underneath. I would also check your iodine levels. I lost 2 trachys that were in my tank for 2 yrs and the only thing that was out was iodine...

Just added Red Sea Iodine +, enough to raise the tanks level .03 ppm. Also added the other Trace Colors additives. Thanks for your input.
