So it's been a long time. I couldn't remember my old information. So I started a new account.

We recently moved. I bought a 75 Gallon Tank and Stand. I had plans to startup a reef tank. However the 75 seems too big. I'm afraid our floor simply won't hold the weight. Wood beams with 4 foot crawl space.

As such unless someone has advise. I was seeking to trade the 75 gallon and stand for a smaller tank and stand.

Anyone have advice on keeping larger aquarium on woof frame floors? Should I brace the floor from under the house? I would prefer to keep the tank.

The house was built in 1971. The joists are 2x8 spread every 16 inches. I have no picture of under the house. Where the tank will be placed, it will set on 5 joists.

Should be a non issue! When you were worried about the floors I thought maybe a 2nd floor apartment or a mobile home.

As long add the joists are in good shape (no termites or mold or rot) you should be fine!

That's my issue. When we bought the house. It had some structural water damage. At least 5 joists have extra 2x8's scabbed onto them near their ends at the seal. Which is what I'm worried about.

The house is of course fine now. Everything up to code. However...not for sure about putting so much pressure on scabbed joists.

I can't comfortably advise either way without laying eyes on it. Should be able to put jacks in, or trade down for peace of mind.
