I am new to East Tennessee. I live in Bluff City just south of Bristol.

Are there any traders out there with some higher end stuff? Maybe some distributors?

Too many. They will be all over this thread, and soon.

Welcome to town. [emoji6]

That's great to hear. The scene up in southwest PA is truly sad. I understand the economical issue with such a depressed area but even the members of the organization find it difficult to put together a swap. The members are very passionate but it's difficult to trickle down when you're in the middle of nowhere.

I am very active in the trading scene. I don't have too much left to trade or sell as I am moving to TN in 2 weeks and had to rid of most of my stock but you best believe ill be back and trading in no time at all!

We can still read this ya know ;)

Oh you know it's the sad truth. You guys are passionate about the hobby but the nearest populated city is hundreds of miles away in every direction. It's difficult to get a scene up there.

Coming from Texas (MARSH) and Florida it was a shock to not see a saltwater community that used it's local forum more than RC and R2R.

Ive got much love for you, steve and Kovaks. All great people and passionate reefers but economics and geography are difficult to overcome.

BTW, can you walk yet!??! I've set your frags aside~! I need your address.

Hey now. My intention was not to offend. It's my opinion. I've been apart of many different reef societies and there is a deep correlation between socioeconomics and the reef trade. It's also a matter of population as well. Demographics are also a huge deal. Most of the store owners in Houston had overseas hookups. Alot were family members.

In Florida, their distributors were straight off the coast line. Same with the west coasters. Which is odd, most of my recent transactions have been with people in California. You'd figure the coastline out there is for the taking.

None the less, there are coral farms popping up everywhere throughout the US. In the middle of Texas seems to be a recent hot bed. Maryland there is a big farm scene. All are within range of major economic powerhouses throughout the nation. Mostly where a straight road hits 3-4 major cities in under 1000 miles.

This isn't a heroin trade right?

Johnson City is a pocket but there is a large population of people just within the Tricities area. If there is a swap in Nashville I am there. Atlanta, I am there. Charlotte, I am there. Raleigh, if my brother in law wasn't a clown. Chatanooga, ummmm... maybe not. I am excited to get started!

Trading round these parts is OK, as long as you know you'll be labeled a "hustler". Glad to see some one else that likes to wheel and deal!

LOL!!! No one trades??? Great.

As long as the other part has something I want or reasonably equal value i personally prefer to trade rather than sell. I'm in this as a hobby not business and with a trade both parties are happy. Now if the other party doesn't have anything you want but wants one of yours by all means a sale could work out better. To take it a step further, if I have a piece that is over growing and I need to trim it as a necessity, I'm more than happy to give away for free to friends or fellow reef club members. Just my 0.02 worth [emoji4]

I want trying to be derogatory, I enjoy trading as well! I have probably only bought a 1/4 of what I've got lol.

I think of it as the hunt for a "perfect" tank is a big draw to the hobby for me. Finding the deals and the cool projects via locals and friends is way better than retail. Plus you meet some cool folks along the way!

I try to make every transaction, cash or trade, as smooth as possible.

Hey @BBoley24!

A couple options for you...

You can post anything you're looking to trade here in this thread of course, or, ETRC club members have access to a private Buy, Sell & Trade forum.

Your invited to come meet the club at our next meeting, see if you want to join, and meet some people to potentially trade with.

If you're interested, watch the ETRC thread for meeting details.

Again, welcome!

Sweet! Already, there is more interest in trading than all of Pittsburgh has had all year.

So tell me, what is the LFS situation around the area?

Join ETRC and get a 10% discount at Aquatic Marine and The Coral Reef!! Then you have The Aquarium.... No discount. Those are all I know of, I'm sure others will chime in! :)

I just saw Aquatic Marine's facebook page... "Euphyillia ONLY $35 per head" Is that a going rate around the tri cities?
