I saw this neon pink coral that was slightly translucent at my lfs at a very low price. I never saw it before and had no idea what it was, so I left it to find out more first. But then of course I didn't take a picture and now I can't find it online anywhere so I'm throwing this out to the crowd here. Do any of you know what type of coral this may be? It was the size and shape of a tennis ball, many small polyps/tentacles like a goniopora, but shorter. The ends of the polyps looked to be 6-8 leaflets, almost like a flowerpot. It was quite striking the colors etc. Anyone have any ideas? Any pictures so I may compare? All detectives welcome with their input!

Alveopora?

I'm thinking what ever it was was bleached. Hope that can help if you find something similar in shape

I think the alveopora arms are too long for it to be that. I've seen this coral before, don't think it is bleached. Gonna have to suck it up and make another trip to the lfs and take a photo.

Are you sure it wasn't a pink Goniopora? I had one in my old tank for a long time......I have seen them with various sized polyps giving them a totally different look from one to the next.

I ended up taking it home, was essentially given to me. Glad I dipped it, all kinds nasties came out of it. First time I've seen anything after a dip. The coral had been there for several months at the lfs and they were wanting it gone. I hope it's gonna recover well in my tank. The guy at the lfs said it was a goniopora, although no idea which type of goniopora specifically. Any tips on these guys?

They are one of the more difficult coral to keep successfully for any length of time. They prefer moderate water movement along with moderate lighting. Feed micro-plankton foods often to increase your chance of success.

Get some Goniopora Power or AcroPower or SpongePower. There are hardy varieties and rent a Goniopora types, they should be feed.

I already feed acropower once a week, at what frequency should I increase it to or is it better to add a second type of food? Thanks for the replies everyone

I would not feed Acropower more then once a week, unless you are dosing a much smaller volume. I feed Spongepower daily. You can feed Goniopora Power weekly, or make your own slurry as well and feed a twice a week.

It's sitting there to the left of the tank. Moderate flow and good light.

Sorry for the quality of the pics, from my iPhone

It's my experience that Goniopora do not like to be high in the tank, and appreciate a tank not dedicated to corals that favor an ultra low nutrient system.

hmm, maybe I'll lower it down then. The corals I have in there right now are doing well in a moderate level of nutrients, good growth, except maybe the xenia - never seem to be able to get those to grow in my tank, so I think the tank parameters should be good, at least in the range. Right now I'm trying to fix flow issues to reduce small areas of cyano. I seem to either have too much flow or not enough. hard to find the sweet spot
