My Acan is retracted, which may not be related to these translucent tubes - any idea what critter is building these tubes? Photo attached

+1 (how old is the Acan and for how long it's on that rock? Also and do you represent something new soon in your DT?)

The tank is 1.5 years old and I would guess the Acans are about 9 months old. I haven't introduced anything new to the tank in 4 months or so.

Can you see somewhere else something similar to this one, it really look like a sponge, some of them grow up separate from the rocks, some on to the rocks and have some which are coming part of the rock, and growing from inner part of the rock.
Check please carefully if you aren't put/have any sponge in the tank (and how long ago you notice that under the Acan ?
You can try to pull it out gently with a tweezers..., the sponges usually are like a silicone/rubber band, and look how the Acan react when you pull it out.
Also take and new photo (if can from the same point) to see how fast is growing this one.
