Hey everyone,

hope all are doing well during this pandemic....

got a question for y’all. I’ve got a mixed reef tank 100.3 Waterbox. It’s been cycled and running for approximately 5 months. I used Marco rock not live rock and have this translucent stuff under some of my rock.

Parameters Are:
ammonia: 0
Nitrate: 0
Nitrite: 0
PH: between 8.06 and 8.25 night vs. day.
calcium: 470
ALK: 8.6
Mag: 1350
Salinity: 1.024

can anyone identify it?

thanks all!!

james

Not sure why I can’t post a video. But here is a crappy picture. Look where the light is shining.

Videos have to be YouTube links.
I have the same stuff. I believe it’s the biofilm. I could be wrong but I’ve never had an issue.

Ah ok, thanks for letting me know!
Biofilm? Hmmm.. I wonder if that’s from using polyp genesis?

It is either bacteria or sponge. Both of these have strains that do not need light to grow. I think all algae needs light to grow.

Thanks for the reply! Do I need to worry about it? Is there something I can do to get rid of it? More water changes?

Its totally harmless. Since it does not like light, I dont see any problems, unless you turn off the lights for a few weeks.
