I have a small purple tip frogspawn that looks good but doesn't have much color its more transparent. could this be because of to much light or not enough or?? not really sure on this one. I've had it all over the tank it its looked similar everywhere.

What do you have for lighting and if possible can you post your water parameters please?

Calcium: 400ppm
Alkalinity: 2.95 Meq/l, 8.25 dkh
Salinity: 1.025 sg
Temperature: 80.6
Nitrate: 1ppm
Magnesium:1260 ppm
Phosphate:0.5 ppm
Ammonia: 0.0 ppm

for lighting I have a hydra 26, I'm wondering if I need to adjust the settings so its more blue

What are the settings on and what distance is the frogspawn from the light?
I have my ai about 10 inches from the surface and the frog spawn another 6 inches in the water(shallow tank). Mostly blues and uv. 119% each.

A lot of the color we see in corals is a reaction to uv. The color being their sunscreen. Any adjustments you make do slowly over several weeks.

I have mine toward the bottom of the tank. Mine have not seemed to like high intensity light. One of mine took several months to color up.

thank you! I will have to get back to you on the light settings tonight

Was it always transparent like this or did it shift to this recently? I ask this because I recently purchased what he called a Star Frogspawn from a reputable local dealer that had a bunch of them and it looks very similar to yours in how the tentacles look. Mine however looks significantly different overall than my other frogspawn in that the tentacles are spread pretty far apart (more like a long tentacle plate) and it has this star pattern on the face of the polyp. It's really quite pretty, and I have never seen one like it before. I'll have to get a clean pic of it to show.

yes please do, mine seems to have become more transparent then when I originally purchased it

Here you go. It's a little blurry, but you can see the transparency of the tentacles and the star pattern on the face.

The rest of my frogspawn corals to compare it to.

I can see a little bit of transparency but I still see a nice amount of green. very nice pieces though

Yes, the lack of nutrients in the water is what your likely cause is. After all of the Euphyillia I have had, I found they do their best in NO3 around 10 and PO4 around .05-.1 IME

Stopped the GFO and things are looking much better, 1 torch at the top of tank is completely open while the other at the bottom of thee tank still seems to be struggling. going to try to move it to a similar conditions and see what happens

If it is brown it is most likely getting rid of waste. If it’s clear it could be “shedding” because of something either irritating it or detritus settling on it.

It's probably residual from zero phosphate more then anything. Now that you have some it will probably color up in a few weeks.
