Hi all,
I’m going to be picking up a new tank today but it’s about 2 hrs away and has fish with it just wondering what the best idea would be to transport then as my LFs doesn’t support marine fish ( even though he sells them) and said that putting them in large koi bags would kill them.
Was going to put some in a couple of tubs.... any other ideas

Bags are fine....as long as the car is heated for the trip...not sure what koi bags are... but healthy fish can easily survive a few hours in a bag. Just make sure you have at least have the tank size in new ro water.....I don't recommend using the same water because transportation is going to bring up detritus...also acclimate the fish again.

well that’s what I thought seeing as howekse do they make it across the country and international....
koi bags are very big and hold a lot of water normally used for transporting large fish like koi carp. im going to drain the tank in to tubs keep that water and then make fresh.

Use buckets with lids. You can buy them at Lowes/Home Depot. I have a bunch of IO salt buckets I use for this type on thing.
Anything in the 5g range should work fine..........fill them up half way or so and keep them in your heated car.

I moved two tanks recently and used IO buckets and a few storage containers from Walmart. Fish went in buckets.

LFSs get fish in big Styrofoam boxes that they throw out. I use those.

I'm not sure but two hours in an air tight bag might present an O2 depletion problem. (I believe shippers use pure O2). An easy fix would be to stop after an hour and open the bags and seal again. Keeping the bags in a Styrofoam box insulates them.
