Transporting tank

Hey all,
So I have a 40B FOWLR at my current home and I’m moving 1,000 miles south. I will be driving, hopefully no more than two days….

I would like suggestions and hear what you guys recommend for moving everything down. I’m thinking of draining the tank and putting the fish in a tote box with filter and air stone to a battery pack.
Do y’all think this is possible or recommend another way?

Other stuff is being shipped separately. So I’d have a car mainly for the tank.

How many fish? What kind/size? Any corals?

I just moved 200g nearly 600 miles and it eas a 2 day journey for me. Brute trash cans, heaters for overnight stays and air bubbles kept everything alive.

I'd recommend keeping rock separate and under some water to keep as much of your bacteria alive as possible. Ditch your sand and get new.

Do you have a way to have fresh salt water at your destination?

I have 7 fish ( 2 clowns, Melanurus wrasse, coral beauty, 2 goby’s, springers damsel).

I’ll definitely take those suggestions. I have 27 gallon tote boxes that I’ll use for the fish and rocks.

I do not have a way for fresh salt water to be there. I was thinking of putting the existing water in 10 gallons jugs I have? Also why would the sand need to be changed?

Depends on the age of your tank and your maintenance, but sandbeds can have some nasties that is better to not stir up. Its heavy. Also, my personal experience with 2 different moves and using fresh sand each time.

I ran extension chords to the heaters and air pumps when I parked for the night. During the drive I just used battery air stones.

You'll want to save as much water as you can and be prepared to make new water for a water change shortly after getting set back up. I had a nutrient spike, not sure if it was from some dieoff or what.

With proper preparations you'll be able to move with good success

Are these the 27 gallon totes you're talking about?

Be aware, these are not rated for supporting 27g of water. They are relatively thin-walled and the weight of water and rock can cause them to bow. I was going to use the larger 57g for my move but one of them cracked due to the distortion of the tote.

What size car will you be using to transport?
