I don’t want to disturb the entire tank to remove peppermint shrimp, but I need them out. One is eating my frogspawn and they are just generally ridiculously greedy and trying to take food from everyone and everything in there. I have tried target feeding them and they are a fan, but it hasn’t kept them out of trouble.

I have read about the confusions between species. These definitely are not camel shrimp. I will post a picture of what they look like.

Regardless, they are getting the boot. Just want to do so peacefully if possible. Thanks for any suggestions.

I would offer up that instead of taping the inverted top of the bottle, you may want to use zip ties. They'll hold solid, and there's no concern of the chemicals that make up the adhesive going into the tank.

Otherwise, I've done the bottle trap myself, it works great.

Worst shrimp to catch. It made me crazy  But I agree with above that the bottle method will be your best bet! Good luck!

Definitely making the bottle trap! Thanks Dutch27 for the suggestion to use zip ties. I was wondering what kind of tape to use that wouldn’t cause harm. Great alternative.

Denisk, glad it isn’t just me. I’ve tried a few times now to catch them but they won’t leave the rockwork long enough for me to scoop them up. Just tried earlier to target feed them with a net right there and the only thing I earned was a backache from leaning over the tank for so long. Haha. Darn shrimp!

Just realized the shrimp pic never posted

Shrimp and wrasses have been the hardest thing to catch for me. For the wrasse, I had to drain the tank lol

My first try catching one of these was too easy. Put net in water, got close to him and he swam into the net. Done.
Had similar issue with 2 of them disturbing my hammer so I decided they needed to go.
Well, I am still trying to catch the 2nd one. I agree the bottle trick always works, it just takes a bit of time in some cases.

Your experience with your first is what I was hoping to achieve today. No such luck!! As I was trying to catch the one messing with my frogspawn, I looked over and saw another one messing with some other coral... and caught neither. I think they were laughing at me. Jerks! :P

I've found a black bottle(used brightwell supplement) worked better than a clear bottle with food in it. I think they feel safer like they are not climbing out into an open space.

That’s interesting. How did you know they went in!? Just sat and watched until they did? If so, how long did it take?

I’ve made a clear bottle trap but decided I’ll wait until morning to put it in since I will actually be around to watch. Not sure how long of a wait I’m in for :)

Skipped feeding for a day or 2 then put a ton of food in the trap placed near the rock I knew they were in. Tried it a few times with a clear bottle and they were hesitant to jump off the rock. The black bottle they climbed onto no problem maybe 15 minutes. I'm guessing they didn't like the open water look of the clear but it was also the 3rd or 4th time with the bottle trap so maybe they were getting used to it being there.

Mine were easy to catch, got them out for the same issue. I actually used the bottle trap to try and catch a damsel earlier and got the shrimp by mistake. I didn't use tape/glue/zipties, I just jammed the top of the bottle into the bottom. When I actually tried to catch them, I just dumped a bunch of food in the water, the shrimp came out to get it, and I scooped them with a net.
