so somehow some way bryopsis was introduced into the refugium where i also have ogo and dragon's breath but it didn't spread into my display tank, most likely due to the fact that i have tangs and foxface.

i have removed ogo and dragon's breath when i used reef flux. during the treament, i also took the kessil H380 offline. the fluconzole did its job.

3 weeks later when every trace of bryopsis "appeared" to be gone, i put back the ogo and the dragon's breath along with the refugium light. lo and behold, the bryopsis came back. is there a way to treat bryposis without damaging/affecting these ornamental algae?

how do you go about in treating bryopsis that could be "hitchhiking" on the red ogo and dragon's breath?

I played around with reef-flux and macros a while back just to see what happened. Here is what I found and I should have documented it here, but it’s all in a note pad lol. This does not mean the stain of macro you have will do the same.

Thin string cheato (the light green really stringy stuff)- it melted

Thick cheato (dark green and thinker stuff) - it lived but lost some darkness.

Ulva (sea lettuce) - melted.

Red ogo- lived but turned a little more orange. Especially around the tips.

Spikey graciliria - no issues

Dragons breath - lost its dark color but rebounded fine.

Fern calurpa - browned out and melted

Grass calurpa - turned white, spawned and about didn’t make it. It did recover though.

Red Florida grass algae (long strand type of turf algae) - grew like a weed and didn’t care.

Grape calurpa - white grapes here and there, but those shed off and it lived.

All of this was done in a 100 gallon tub where I grow out macros. There was some bryopsis on a rock in a basket and it died and never came back.

Again, this was only one time as I was curious of what would do what with reef flux added. It is in no way a guarantee or was it ever repeated. I have been wantin log to do a more controlled test, but haven’t had time. Luckily all that died was just handfuls, as I had just setup my larger macro grow out and snagged some bits for messing around with.

I also assume the one that grew all crazy was from the spike in nutrients from the ones that melted. Nitrates stayed at 5 and then hit 10 after the cheato melted. Po4 went from .03 to .1 and then back down to .03 after a week or so. Nitrate also dropped back to normal after a week. The turf algae doubled in size in that time and I had to thin or up my dosing it to keep nutrients from bottoming out. I thinned it out and fed it to some tangs I had in qt lol.

Exactly what I needed to know! I just ordered some reef flux to deal with my bryopsis!

I have cheato, fireball and sea lettuce. When I get my reef flux in I’ll just dose my tank. If the lettuce dies oh well! I’ll pick up some more from a guy who grows it so well he gives it away.
