I am going to treat my yellow tang with erythromycin for red blotches on his body. I was going to use a old 20L that I planned on using for a sump later next year. Will using this med kill the chances of using this tank, heater, and power head in a reef later as copper would do?

My normal QT has other fish in it in copper at the moment and didn't want to dose anything else.

I'm pretty sure you can just sterilize the 20L with vinegar and water or bleach (rinse well), letting it dry completely afterwards should make it safe to use later.

Is this a newly acquired YT? Some fish will get red streaks due to osmotic shock; these streaks show up particular well on a YT. If you scroll down here to where it talks about "Acclimation Stress" you will see a pic of a YT with this condition: http://chucksaddiction.thefishestate.net/disease.html

Then if you scroll down further to "Internal Bacterial Infections" you will see a closeup pic of a YT with an actual infection which needs to be treated with antibiotics.
