I just noticed that my Melanurus Wrasse has started to develop a bloated belly. I've seen this look before and suspect it is Dropsy. Is there any treatment known to work? I've had him for 6 years and it would be a shame to lose him or have to euthanize him.

Let me know, thanks.

Dropsy is more of a FW thing. He could have:
  1. Overate
  2. Constipation
  3. Internal infection or growth (tumor, Lympho, etc.)
  4. Swim bladder disorder i.e. gas bubble forms in the swim bladder region
I would hope it's just #1 and try feeding him peeled boiled peas to help "push things out". ;)

Agreed

Peas are a part of my everyday recipe ground and mixed with mysis, cyclop, phyto and oyster feast. Should I try epsom for constipation or maybe metroplex for bacteria? I think I might even have some strong antibiotics like cypro if you think that might help. I had a clown fish with basically the same symptoms about 4-5 months ago. Eventually his eyes started to bulge and I euthanized him. Are there any other treatments I could try? I really like this fish.

If the swelling hasn't gone down by this morning, then you can do the epsom salt. Maybe increase the amount of peas in the food mix, or just feed a pea on it's own for him.
