hey

Just got this guy and next day was full of ick. I am planning on taking all my fish to a qt tank for copper treatment, but worried about my biota mandarin. Does he need to be in qt? I read his skin wont get parasites?

If you have ICH your main display will need to be fallow (fishless) for 3 months so the ICH can all die off. This means all fish need to go into QT until the 3 months time has lapsed and it is time to go back into the display. Having all fish in QT and the system fallow for 3-months is a lot of work. Far too much work to not get all fish out since you run the chance of it still being in there if you leave the mandarin in there and it could prevent all the ICH from dying off.

Understood. The mandarin won’t find enough food to survive 3 months without rocks/pods. Also heard that they are sensitive to copper?

I agree.

Is there any way he will eat if you feed him directly? I know it won't be his normal pod diet, maybe you can try and feed him some other food and try and keep him alive for the time being? It won't be anywhere close to him eating pods in your display all day, but its worth a shot.

This may help:

When I got my madarin I did alot of research and everything thing I read said that mandarins have something that makes them less prone to get ich and other parasites I had issues with ich when I first got my tank going and my mandarin never got it and is still doing well almost a year later

Is this marine velvet?

It has been deteriorating very quickly. I am starting copper tomorrow, but not sure if he will make it .
