I recently posted about my butterflies and velvet under the coppersafe thread but thought I would do my own this time.
3 rd. Day of copper treatment and most of the fish are doing ok. Pearlscale is not . Hanging to the back of the tank and off food. Ocassionally it will swim around the tank and out front but seldom. Lights are out over tank but room is lit. Water is pretty cloudy due to garlic I think. Discontinued it but it’s only been a day.
Plan to freshwater dip and do a reefrally bath for about 60-90 min.
Curious if any other suggestions might be had. Unless something else is suggested I will do this tonight after work.
Much thanks,
Jim

Hey Jim,
I hope you see improvement. I can make a suggestion, it is possible that you are experiencing somewhat of a bacterial bloom, just because of all of the meds you had mixed together. If the water is cloudy, I would recommend water changes ASAP. If it is a bacterial bloom, it will consume oxygen from the water largely. I doubt you have enough garlic in the water to cloud it up, if you are just adding it to food.

50% enough? Have two hob filters going , a powerhead and bubbler.
Possibly, depends on the level of the bloom, if you want or are able to, when you return from work post a picture. I would also prepare water for an additional 50% change by am. If it is a bloom they can be difficult to get ahead of.
I would also recommend testing your Cu level when you get home too.

I had this happen often when I used coppersafe, discovered that their dosing instructions led to lethal levels of coppers. This has become a more widespread issue with some batches of coppersafe. I would test to ensure you’re not at 3.0-5.0PPM of copper.

100% water changes were ne see to rid my quarantines of these blooms once I discovered it was coppersafe.

I can do an entire tank if needs be. My problem is mixing the meds before changing. If I can change then dose copper then no problem. Otherwise it’s 5 gallon at a time or get a couple ten gallon tanks out and mix in them before putting in the qt. Just hate to contaninate the 10’s unless necessary.

Didn’t see the new post. My copper is checked with the chemetrics test kit and shows right at 2.

Thinking this through, if a 100% change is needed I can set up a ten with water and use it to house the fish till the 40 is clean and ready with dose of copper. Do I need to keep the copper level up in the ten? Could I do a rally bath with all them at that point? Freshwater dip? Might take till tomorrow to accomplish all this.

If its bad cloudy, like cant see all the way through the tank, and you have the capability to go 100%, go for it.
Just siphon tank water into a 5 gallon bucket, then drain low enough to catch your fish. Put fish in bucket. Finish draining tank. Refill tank with new water, dose copper, then put fish back into tank. You just never want the fish exposed to water that isn't at a therapeutic copper level.

Bloom could still be from all of the combining of meds.

I got it changed out but I think it cost me my wrasse. He is laying on his side gasping. The pearlscale is still in a bath but the others are settling in and look pretty good.

Looks good now. Wrasse may have been a victim of your bloom. Hopefully he will snap out of it.

He was great till the bucket. He came out of it laying at the top. Had a hard bubbler going the whole time. Here is hoping. He is a real beauty. Thanks for the aid. Will see what the morning brings.
Have a great evening,
Jim

Trying to get the copper level right. I must say the chemetrics kit is nice but you can not fine tune. Just try matching the colors as best you can. Can not wait to have a Hanna test kit. Flasher did not make it. Pearlscale is still shy and not eating. Other fish are eating some and acting normal.
Thanks to all who sacrifice thier time to help us work out the issues we face from day to day. It is appreciated.
Jim
