Tridacna… how many species

I know we have the ones that are commonly surfacing in the hobby;
- Noae
- Maxima
- Squamosa
- Deresa
- Crocea
- Gigas
But how many are there that actually surface in this hobby? And how many actually are there in the genus Tridacna?

In addition to your list, there are also Hippopus Hippopus, T. rosewateri, T. Tevora and H. Porcellanus.
These clams are very rare in the aquarium hobby though.
On a side note, the T. Noae, or Noah or Teardrop Clam was confused as being a T. maxima, however it has since been assigned its own independent species.

out of all of the ones you listed, the most popular clams are the tridacna genus: derasa, squamosa, maxima, and crocea (in descending order of size). not to say the rest aren’t in the hobby, but it’s increasingly difficult to source them, as the four listed are already being aquacultured to the best of my knowledge
