Tridacna crocea is it the house

Here I am taken my leap in raising a blue crocea clam. More than a inch wide. I must say it's beautiful....when you look at it from above it's blue but from the side it has this purplish blue hue to it.

Excellent. Do not move the clam too much. If the threads rip it will cause an open wound which will kill then clam fast.

I see the tank looks pretty new. Definitely post parameters to make sure your clam has everything it needs to survive long term.

I don't know what is old n new. But I have amphipod n copepod colony n a turkey clam in it. That's why I don't have nuisance algae problem XD
Parameter is pH 8.2 , kh 10, ammonia NADA, nitrate 10 ppm

LEDs.....had minimal blue 30% pink n all white. Wanted to put in on a rock but it fell off doing....hmm...farting!???? The ****.....um draw in water but expel from the bottom.

Hey about testing for ca n mag?
Do weekly water change help. Since that's the only one consuming calcium in my tank

Crocea and maximas need high light like acros. Find a way to secure to at least mid level. People put clams on the floor of the tank which is never enough par. Clams need a rock that they can attach to and give enough room for future growth. It will move around a bit to orient itself to the light source.

They are shallow water animals so don't run a blue windex tank.

Don't have too much flow.........you don't want to see the mantle flapping around or folding from flow. Don't hit them with laminar flow....keep it even across the mantle

Although they do feed per absorption, I would consider dosing some bacteria. I had read there was some recent info about them being bacteria consumers.

Very few people follow the above suggestions and most fail. I think the biggest fail is putting them in low par on the tank floor.

Mine has a 12 inch distances between light and it. For now it's look happy with the mantle complete expand

What light is it?

Looking happy isn’t really helpful for clams. They can look good but not be getting what they need until bam… suddenly they are dying.

maxima clam can take any light you have, it just needs to be acclimated properly. Mine is on my top rock, about 8" under 150w of metal halide. Just move it up slowly to get used to your lights, when your clam is finds its happy spot it will attach itself, you wont be able to move him anymore.

I think they might be looking for what brand of LED to see if it will meet the needs of the clam. Crocea and maxima are pretty intense light lovers so I feel like your going to have issues with this clam pretty soon.

Leds doesn’t mean anything. I need to know the brand of the fixture so we know how powerful they are and what spectrum.

Some LEDs can not grow a plant let alone coral or something as demanding as a clam.

It looks good, good job. A happy clam just sits there with his lips out all day. Try to find a way to get him higher, maxima likes light, the more the better. You should always be seeing new white growth at the top of the shell, a clam grows its whole life, so if you ever dont see new growth on the shell, it indicates a problem that you need to solve. Overall, they are pretty easy to keep, Good Luck.

Gotta say my nitrate ammonia hasn't risen one bit after I got crocea. Hehehe this guy works XD
