I have had a Trident for almost two months. The thing that surprises me the most is how much the pH of my tank changes Alk consumption. I can clearly see that when we are home on the weekends, elevated CO2 in the house causes the pH in my tank to go down. When this happens, the alkalinity consumption in my tank goes down and the Alk value rises. This may not be a surprise to some, but it was to me. My Trident controls my DOS. Doing so has kept my Alk swings to a minimum during these changes in pH. Now I understand why it was so hard to keep my Alk stable before having the Trident/DOS. I just don't see how people do it. This post isn't to sell the Trident...any alk monitor could help deal with this issue. I just wanted to point out that it isn't just how much corals consume alk that affects the Alk level in our tanks. It is multiple things and without an Alk monitor adjusting dosing, I just don't see how people can keep a stable Alk level without daily testing and adjustments. If you are struggling with keeping a stable Alk and don't have a Trident or other device, I would seriously consider the investment!

Isnt it amazing to see the cause and effect when its drawn right out for you!

I have noticed the same thing when I change out my co2 scrubber media and my trident. I had wondered if it was consumption changing or if the alkalinity reads different with change of ph. I agree though it’s really interesting.
