Maybe I'm not fully understanding the controlled dosing option for the Trident as it doesn't seem to do what I think it should. I've been trying to increase my alk level in my tank. So, to do so, I went through the controlled dosing wizard and set my target dKH to what I want it to be (9 dKH, while the tank was sitting around 8-8.1 dKH) and told it that it takes 20 ml of solution, in this case All for Reef to maintain that target level. I chose 20 ml based off my experience of tank uptake..or so I thought.

I changed my range to 0.2 +/- to keep the swing minimized and left the limit at +/- 35% because I was unsure if I'd need more than the 20 ml to get me to my target.

It has been running this way for...5-7 days now and while alk has climbed to around 8.6 over the course of these days, my DOS never reflects dosing more than my set 20 ml. I have stalled out now at dosing 20 ml/day and my alk sitting at 8.6 dKH.

To me, it should be dosing up to 35% more solution to get me up to my target of 9.0 dKH. Is that not how it's meant to work?

If I've been unclear I can try to clarify my concern/question.

Changing the range to +/- 0.2 means that the Trident will try and keep your alk between 8.8 and 9.2. If you move outside this range, then the Trident will stop doing controlled dosing, and fall back to whatever base amount you chose (in this case, 20 ml). You need to open up the range a bit to allow for the Trident to manuever within it. I would also dose some alkalinity manually to get it to 9.0, then run the alk test and let it realize it is within range, and start controlling.

The Trident is not designed to ramp your dosing up or down over a wide range. It’s designed to keep it stable over a narrow range by making relatively small adjustments.

Yep, that's it. I knew there had to be a built in feature I was overlooking, just couldn't come up with it. Thanks!

Yes, understood. I just was failing to take into account the narrowed range per @themcfreak above.
