So I set my Alkalinity value to 9 dkh, range to 1.25 dkh, and limit to 35%. Total dose 7ml between 00:00 to 23:59.

I noticed that the it has been dosing 0.1 ml every 20 minutes consistently and does not adjusting its dosing by itself. In the past I saw one time dosing as high as 0.3 and up and down. But now
I only see 0.1 every 20 minutes consistently eventhough the alkalinity Trident test shows at 8.75, 8.8, or anything under 9.

Please help.

If your values are outside your set values for a 24 hour straight period then dos goes to it’s preset default that you have entered. Not sure if your gunna understand how I wrote that lol

After a 24 hour period what does the value here say ? Mine is 70 cause Ive set it for 70ml a day. What’s yours say after 24 hours?

The Apex will default to dosing the preset values if the trident tests too far from your specified value, but I don’t believe that there’s a 24 hour timer in there at all. I believe that as soon as a test is outside the range then it will start dosing at the preset value and then as soon as it tests back within range it will go back to adjusting the values.

Ive been thru this many times Definitely a time of some sort there. Think 24 hours. But maybe I’m crazy :)

I think you're misunderstanding how Trident Controlled Dosing works. If your Trident measures 9.0 dKH, it will continue dosing the base amount of 7 mL per day. The DOS automatically breaks that up into equal doses throughout the time window:

Your DOS will increase or decrease that amount up to 35% (so 9.45 mL max, or 4.55 mL min). In the example of the max amount, that works out to:

But it only delivers that amount if it gets all the way down to the lower limit on your Trident test result, or 7.75 dKH in your case.

Since 0.1 mL is the smallest amount the DOS can deliver, and your readings are so close to the 9.0 dKH goal, it can't really adjust much more than it's doing. You should tighten up the range, so instead of 7.75 dKH - 10.25 dKH, for example change it to a range of .5 dKH so it will adjust between 8.5 dKH - 9.5 dKH.

Read Neptune's guide for Trident Controlled Dosing for more details: https://www.neptunesystems.com/getstarted/trident/tridentdos/

Ok. I have changed the range to 0.5 dkh as per your recommendation. Thank you

So I have changed the range to 8.6-9.4, it can never hit to 9dkh with the Trident controlled dosing. Here is the chart for few days. Is there anything wrong with the fluctuations? Is this fluctuation normal? Why I can’t hit target 9 dkh?

Neptune recommends a maximum range of 0.4 dKH for Alk. It's not designed to make larger changes to your levels. Your range of 8.6-9.4 is 0.8 dKH, which is double the recommended range. Instead, you should manually dose to bring it up to the level you want to maintain, then let the Trident control it from there with a tighter range.

As I mentioned in my previous post, read Neptune's guide for Trident Controlled Dosing for the recommended settings: https://www.neptunesystems.com/getstarted/trident/tridentdos/

Sorry if I didn’t make myself clear. The control range is +/-0.4 dkh. Does it not mean it will operates between 8.6-9.4dkh? Is setting up the control range +/- 0.4 dkh is too high? I read that article and 0.4 dkh is the recommended setting range for Alkalinity.

Also, from their website:
“This is the second value to look at. It’s possible the “control value” that has been selected is an “ideal value.” However, if the “control value” is too far above or below the “actual value” the Trident is reading, then temporarily adjust that value up or down closer to the level the Trident is reporting. Make small changes. For example, if the “ideal” alkalinity is 9.0 dKH and the “actual” alkalinity is 6.0 dKH, then a good “control value” would be 6.7. Then as the “actual value” becomes closer to the “control value” move the “control value” closer to the desired, “ideal value.””.

It looks my control value of 9 dkh is okay already, but it seems Neptune Trident and DOS. can’t seem to bring it to 9 dkh

Sorry, you’re correct. (I just had oral surgery and was on pain meds when I posted my comments...I probably should not have been giving any advice in that condition...)

Are you using a single DOS interval? I split mine into 3 intervals to dose more during the day when consumption is higher than at night. This really helped to reduce the daily swings.

See my Trident thread where I showed screenshots and graphs as I fine-tuned my dosing schedule:

Great thread! Speedy recovery!
Yes! Single DOS interval. I am only dosing Alk right now. Nothing else. I also read on your thread that running GFO affect Alkalinity? I just started running GFO last week. My Alk level is lower since then. However, still my DOS and Trident combo can’t bring it to 9. Is mine defective you think? All control level is in the line and per recommendation already.
