This may have been discussed a lot, but I haven't found exactly what I'm looking for. Also, I've been out of the hobby for at least ten years, and so much has changed since then so thank you for your help.

I recently purchased a trident, Dos, and reservoir. I'm hoping this helps keep my system more stable. I'm curious what supplements everyone is dosing through the DOS system to specifically help with the Mag, alk, and Calcium. In the past I used B-ionic with great success, but is there a better system out there? I'd rather buy the right stuff the first time as this hobby has gotten crazy expensive. Thank you again!

Welcome back after your decade off! There are now more "2 part" (which usually is 3-4 part) dosing regimes out there than you can shake a stick at. If you just have a single DOS, then I would put your ALK and Calcium on that, then you can manually dose Magnesium everyone once in a while - no real need to dose it every day since it depletes less quickly than other elements. What size tank do you have? In terms of cost, usually going with dry powders and mixing your own solutions will be most cost effective long term, so the BRS range of supplements is what I have been using to good effect. There are lots of other brands that do the same thing, and some that incorporate some trace elements - which you may or may not need depending on your water chance schedule. If I wasn't using BRS dry additives, I would probably look at Tropic Marin's line. More expensive, but some advantages. BRS has some good videos on these lines and how to implement...

Thank you very much for the info. I'm going to check into the tropic marin. I used to run their salt with great success

I use Aquaforest, which is a modified version of the balling method.

it’s a 3 part so it requires 2 DOS. Once everything is balanced, it just requires equal dosing of each component.

I JUST DOSE ALL FOR REEF AND AMINOS MONITOR THE PARAMATERS FOR A WEEK AND SEE WHICH ONE GETS CONSUMED MORE OR OFF THEN JUST ADJUST THAT PARAMATER

I make my own ALK with baking soda and mix my Ca with BRS Calcium Chloride. I have a second Dos that does water changes throughout the week which takes care of Mg.

IF YOU HAD TO TAKE A REEFING EXAM, WOULD YOU PASS?
