The funny thing is im kind of a gadget geek and data geek - so even though I fundamentally disagree with some of the reasoning for doing it - if it turns out to be helpful - I would enjoy the data as well - Is the cost expected to be 20-25 $/month?I had thought it was higher. My only issue is that the trident needs to be mounted above the sump (is this correct) - if true I'm not sure where I can put it - but depending on how big it is - I have an idea.

Yes, the cost is expected to be around that number. I thought Terence had said once that it would be $45 for 2 months supply? Something like that? There was also talk of a 6 month supply, but that hadn't been finalized and I think was only an idea. I believe that was mentioned in the Trident video done back in January on Facebook.

Hmmm... if it has to be above the sump, I have an all in one... so I'll probably have to mount it on the wall. I hadn't heard that yet, but I could see it being true. Can anyone confirm?

If they aren’t ok with the cost, don’t buy the product. If cost is an issue, you most likely don’t have a $3000 apex system. If cost is the issue, you can just test manually and spend just as much on reagents.

If you manually tested as often as the Trident does, then yes. But most people don't need to. And that's a valid argument.

Fair enough. I'm personally not offended but what strikes me odd is when a question is asked, then later answered, and the question is asked again by the same person, only to be answered again and no middle ground is reached it gets old. If you are not able to have a honest discussion without setting your personal bias on the table then it is time to stop. That means everyone here who is participating in the discussion including me. I'll also clarify that this product, today, isn't for me be it provided by Neptune or other. I do own the Apex ecosystem so if and when I'm ready for a product such as this then it would be the first vendor I go to because it will plug and play. Also if you need to know I go back to 2000 with the Neptune unit with X10's...go figure.

The discussions around revenue I think are unjust. I've stated that as much and as you see above with my exchange with @JeffB418 while I do not agree I can come to a rational understanding of their opinion, respect that, and move on. I do not agree with that aspect and see it differently. In fact, if the revenue stream was a concern then they would be charging us a subscription for the fusion presentation layer. Do you think the development and hosting fees are free? If they are using AWS and any LB's in front of their app I'm pretty sure it isn't cheap... My point in this is it is a product they felt was needed. May have taken longer, may have needed a design change, may have needed other things for which non of us know. With anything else in this hobby patience is a must - why think there is an alternate motive?

I feel I'm pretty reasonable lad and can see the various themes here. I see your point and concern about testing frequency and Mg (understanding and common ground point noted above). However to say it is vapor ware over and over or the regents are nothing more than a revenue stream I think it is taking this too far. Agree to disagree but in the end if there no meeting in the middle, even after actual testers share what they can, then I call it what it is and say it is time to stop participate in the discussion.

Thanks everything you say makes sense. I'm probably going to buy one - so if I question something its to make a decision on whether to or not. The answers provided by some of the testers and Terrence have been really informative - If no one asked the questions - no one would no. I seriously view this 'back and forth' as a marketing victory for Neptune.

Well - no offense - but - they didn't charge a price for Fusion - so thats a positive. Nor does any other company of which im aware (echosmart, maxspect) charge for their apps/internet access. Nor Nest, Schlage locks, Philips Hue, etc - thats why the prices are higher to begin with - to pay for the apps, etc.

You don’t need monthly revenue when you come out with new equipment yearly which everyone wants to buy as soon is it comes out ex. Trident. As well as spending thousands to set up a tank with an apex system.

If you manually tested as often as the Trident does, then yes. But most people don't need to. And that's a valid argument.

Why would it need to be mounted above the sump so it doesn't get wet? Does that mean it needs to be located 'close' to the sump - i.e. inches - or does it mean it can be located on the floor outside the sump. My impression was there was some 'gravity reason' - or is it a 'tubing length' question?

The tubing length. This was talked about earlier in the thread. I believe it was 5 or 6 feet of tubing. I don’t see why gravity would effect testing...

It may be, I don't know. I don't work for them nor am I a beta tester. If the product does what it is supposed to and the overall reviews are good then I think it will take care of itself in the end.

I have a lot of respect for those who are questioning the regent cost though. There is a lot to be said when one looks at the monthly dollars going to various services. Internet, NetFlix, whatever. Everyone wants their piece of the pie but the nickle and dimes add up and we all only have so much. Sort of like the cord cutters stopping the various packages only to find out the sum of ala cart + internet are usually more in some cases.

Sort of like going to Disneyland and buying a coke or coke product. Do you think Disneyland is paying for those cokes or product by coke? No, they are not...but you the park visitor are. That is revenue. Regents are not

Why do you think Warren Buffet lives where he lives - as compared to a penthouse in Manhattan or a castle in Italy. Just because people question cost doesn't mean they don't have xxx$$$ system. me either - but - if you look at the footprint of the sump in a redsea reefer - there will be very little room to mount the apex 'above the sump' unless its 'outside of the tank'. Which would be a hassle. It wondered if it could be back flow into the trident or something if it was at floor level. But - I'm sure someone that knows the answer will let us know.

If you aren’t ok with the monthly cost, DONT buy the system. Why buy a television if you don’t want to pay for cable? And how long will it take you to kill $25-$30 a month in coral if your alk drops between your weekly manual testing andbyou don’t catch it with the trident? This was the reason I purchased the apex. Would only have to lose one colony to be out the cost of my entire system.

You can buy siphon breaks and valves to eliminate possibilities of backflowing. I believe the pump for the trident is the same as the Dos

Lets not argue about that - Firstly - I never said I wasn't ok with the monthly cost - secondly - I said I would probably buy the system if others found it useful. Why resort to comments like this? you've said that once or twice to others and now to me. As I said before - Positive comments are a benefit to Neptune - negative comments are also a benefit to Neptune (especially when they are questions). Thats all I did was ask a question. Its good for marketing research - which is free. I'm not sure why you're so on the bandwagon...

BTW - here are some more details I have a reefer 525 XL -so there is a sump on the left 2/3 of the tank and a cabinet for equipment on the right - mounting the trident on the 'floor' of that cabinet would be excellent if it could be done - if it has to be above the sump - im not sure there's room - thats the reason I asked. Maybe @Terence could help with this one?

I didn’t mean to offend you. I was trying to explain why the cost of reagents is there. If it were free, they wouldn’t be in business.
