I have a Trident but have never owned or used a Alkatronic, so my advice will be bias.
I have been using the trident for 3 months and I love it, I can barely hear it testing now if I listen closely. I love that it does the 3 major element tests automatically and my apex let’s me see the backlog of results for, 2 weeks, I think. It is easy to set up and maintain. The customer service is, imho, some of the best in this hobby.
With all that being said it is not without its issues. As I said I have had it set up for 3 months (give or take a week). For full disclosure this is NOT the first trident I have had, in fact it’s not the second... The first one I set up ran for 3 days and then would not read properly, this is how I know Neptune has great customer service. I was able to get a replacement in about a week. It turns out the first one had software issues that could not be fixed remotely.I got the new one set up and it ran for a week then started to leak reagent. That one had hardware issues that would not be fixed with replacement parts. It took another 5 days to get a new one, partly due to it being a 3 day weekend. Not Neptune’s fault but still frustrating.
Number 3 was the charm for me. It’s been up and running VERY well for the last 2 month. I never botheredto calibrate it as I tested it vs my Hanna checkers and they were almost exact. (I wil calibrate it when I change reagents).
If you go with the Trident the only thing I will suggest is to get the 3D printed cones to go in the reagent bottles to keep the pipe straight. It’s about a $10 cost but so, so, so worth it.
last thing I will say is despite the issues I had, I didn’t say “screw the Trident” and send it back. Yes they were frustrating issues but overall very minor to put up with. As I said Neptune’s customer service is awesome so that helped the over all experience to be much better than it could have been.
Enjoy the hobby!
