Trident reagent A empty notification...almost 100mL left in bottle

so I got the reagent A empty notification today, and went ahead and replaced it. Followed the task directions, but realized after that the bottle felt a bit heavy, so I decided to see how much was left in it. There was still 92mL of reagent left in the bottle. This seems WAY too early to have an empty bottle notification....and a complete waste of quite a bit of reagent. How much should be left in the bottle under normal circumstances?

I guess my question in this thread is more: is the “reagent a empty error” simply a notification, and then u have however many tests remaining to switch out reagent a, or is it a hard stop error where the trident will no longer test?

Mine just threw the reagent a empty error (for the first time) and it shows I have 9 tests remaining. I would assume I have to replace the reagent a in the next 9 tests, not that I have to immediately replace reagent a or it will not test any further. I would hope is more of a warning than a hard stop.

The OP replaced at the first sign of error, is that the correct action? Or maybe the user needs to reset reagent a and then switch out before the remaining 9 tests are used (9 in my example).

It makes sense being that it uses titration. To everyone that has already gone through reagent a, what do you keep your alkalinity at?

in my mind, theoretically if you have a lower alkalinity, you are going to have more reagent left, opposed to somebody that's running a much higher alkalinity because it will need more reagent to test a higher alkalinity.

if everybody posts their alkalinity numbers, and the amount of reagent a left over, I think we could come to a conclusion.

When you get the reagent empty notification, does it stop testing Alk until you put in a new bottle or is it just a warning and continues testing?

With the OP having a similar Alk level and around the same 1/3 of the reagent bottle left, it looks like if the Trident allows you to ignore the empty notification, you have at the very least, another 10 days of Alk tests left.

That is the question I have too. In my case it appears to have just stopped testing.

We need to know the correct action to take when we get the reagent a error, and we don’t happen to be standing right in front of our trident to replace the bottle. Is the correct action when u won’t be home for several hours to reset reagent a and replace the bottle the next time we are actually home?

FWIW. I just reset reagent a and it appears to be testing again. I’ll just do the real reagent a changeout this evening when I get home. Thought I’d share that resetting it works but now I’m responsible to remember to change it out almost immediately

Didn't they explain that the first bottle sent - was recommended to be replaced after one month - (one full month of testing - and extra to allow for multiple manual tests, etc) and that the second bottle will be different? That said - Im not sure how the 'error' is generated - but - my understanding is that this issue affects only the bottle of reagent that comes with the Trident itself. I may be incorrect - but...

My guess is the error is generated after a specific number of tests. I really can’t see Neptune making 2 different reagent A bottles. That wouldn’t make any financial or business sense. In fact, I’d wager to say without the calibration required when you swap out reagents, there will be even more reagent left over in subsequent refill bottles.

Right - I meant - if you follow the instructions you would throw reagent A away after about 1 month. I wonder if the first bottle error message is programmed differently than the months going forward (because of the unsure way people start up their system) - but I have no clue.... Im surprised that Neptune hasn't answered this yet (I did see a video on this thread that suggested the explanation above as a reason - but again IDK)

Terence stated that you can reset the error and try and use the remaining amount in the bottle, but you would need to then know when to change it on your own. You just run the change reagent task without changing it and it will go back to working as intended...but will assume a full bottle of reagent is there.

FWIW, I wasn't able to change out my Reagent A when I got the notice that it was out. I can confirm that before I was able to change it out, there was a notice that the Trident was not testing and for how long it had not tested. I wish I would have taken a screenshot, but it was something around 24 hours. In other words, the message was that the Trident had not run a test in 24 hours. Not sure if that was for all three tests or just ALK.

I know, that's minimally helpful...

This is probably more helpful...There was a software update released for the Apex. There was also a software update for the Trident Module. Run the Apex one first and then you'll get a notice for the Trident Module.

I don’t own a trident yet but what did the software update do for the trident?

With this AOS, the Trident tile will no longer display a generic TESTING message when it is busy initializing, priming, or conducting water tests. Instead, more detailed status/activity messages will be shown. These enhanced Trident status/activity messages are:

IDLE
INITIALIZING
PRIME SAMPLE
PRIME A
PRIME B
PRIME C
TESTING ALK
TESTING CA/MG
CAL ALK
CAL CA/MG

Trident error messages (those displayed in red text) are still the same - NO WATER SAMPLE, WASTE FULL, REAGENT A, etc.

Sorry if this was covered but can you just use the rest of the reagent a bottle in the next bottle you use. Line when the new bottle is a tad gone just dunno in what you had left

no, It's been stated that pouring the rest of the reagent bottle into the next will contaminate it.

I think you'll start to see tridents start showing up in the for sale section in a few months when people get tired of buying reagent for it at $47.90 standard shipping or $50.90 for faster shipping every 2 months.
