Trident reagents alternative

The bottles were rotated so you could see all of the leaked reagent. I’m not sure if there is anything implied by your uncertainty. Either way, this is just me sharing my experience.

Guess when I made the reagent change? I replaced them all at once.

I have not calibrated using their solution, yet. I wanted to see how consistent the readings were for reagent that are marketed as replacements.

I’ll share post calibration readings tomorrow.

only that they probably had some bugs to work out. it is literally just a normal guy with a different career. he is probably trying to fill all of the orders and running out of the bottles I got. so no consistency or QC in packaging. Hopefully he gets that under control quickly and that it doesnt extend beyond packaging into his mixture.

I just recieved a 6 month supply shipment from them as well and the bottles look like what is pictured above. I too have some what looks like splashes on the bottles. I inspected each one and all lids are TIGHT and did not find any leeks. I think that what are on the outside of the bottles are from when they were filling? not sure. If this is the case a quick wipe down of the bottles would go a long was for QC. will see how they preform in about 2 weeks when I switch out the next set of reagent.
I look forward to seeing more options in products as competition leads to lower prices and more innovation.
I had recently bought a supply and ours worked great, have you tried it? Wondering about buying more. Let me know if you have used yours please and thank you.

Just an update. Performed calibration using provide solution. Results are still different, but margin isn’t much of a concern for me. I’m interested in stability and the readings aren’t fluctuating. It’s not even been a week, but I’m not expecting any issues at this point.

Yea, that happened for us too. Not far off, but was slightly off after calibration, so we just hand tested our water and then calibrated against those values. Was perfect after that.

If anyone has any empty trident reagent bottles that fit in the drawer laying around they’d like to share with a fellow reefer, I’d be interested in them.

These ABC bottles don’t fit my trident and I didn’t keep my empties. The pics show similar bottles as what come with the trident reagents, but the bottles I received are completely different.

I'm getting my second trident up and running and need 3 empties to pour the reagents into that fit in the trident drawer.

I’ll cover the cost

pm me if you can help a fellow reefer out

Not posting in favor of Neptune or their overpriced reagents but I can see a scenario where Neptune voids all warranty and repairs when someone uses a third party reagent. Wouldn't be hard for them to find out either. They'll ask for pics and batch numbers. When you can't give them that info, warranty is out the window
lol - wont happen.

Thats like a car manuafacturer telling you that you must use their gas and oil or the warranty is void.

Can't be done.

i'll check when i get home but pretty sure i have an empty of each, a b and c

I just switched out my reagents to the ABC did the calibration . Used the supplied values on the calibration fluid label. Then did a scheduled test. Alk tested at 9.14 should be at 8.0 .Checked several times my water With Hanna and sallifirt Both them checked out at 8.0. Tested the calibration fluid and found it was off. The calibration fluid tested 8.0 even though the label stated 9.14.
So I tested Calcium and Mag from calibration fluid. I found those to be very close to the label.
I have now done a recalibration with the tank values that I know are more accurate and then retested. All seams to be correct now.
If you are going to use their calibration fluid I sagest checking the supplied numbers at least the Alk.
Will I order again? Yes!
Maybe I will order just the Alk reagents soon and use the codeing to set my trident to test Alk 12 times a day and Cal Mag 1 or 2 times a day. I do have my trident controlling my Calcium Reactor so this my make it even more stable than it is now.

I just used my last box of official reagents so I am looking to buy these reagents now. So for the ones that started using these reagents are you still happy with them?

I am happy with them just when you calibrate use your own known values from your tank water. test Alk Cal and Mag with separate test kit and use those values and do not use their sample it is not accurate. I just ordered another 6 month supply. This allows me to test 8 times a day at about the same cost of a trident 6month only 4 times a day .

Thanks for the reply. Im going to go ahead and order some. Do the bottles that it comes in work with the trident, or do you pour the reagent into some of the Neptune bottles?

I don’t use neptunes calibration solution either so that is no different than what I’m doing now.

Any specific reason your worried about re using the bottles?
I was worried about contamination from one batch to another. Should this be considered a non-issue? I'd think someone would sell in a larger quantity (Neptune or ABC) if there was no worry. Just throwing this out there for opinions.

So many good posts here. A few that seem questionable. I’m not sure why there are so many haters out there.

i currently use the ABC Reagents and I see absolutely no difference except cheaper cost.

Neptune sells equipment for high dollar and has a great profit margin on their equipment. But the reagents have a HUGE profit margin. They assumed no one would diy it, and banked on price gouging customers in reagents.

the reagents are not intellectual property. Maybe the bottles are, but the chemicals in the bottles have been around and used for decades in the testing world.

to everyone hating either 1 you have some skin in the game and are scared you won’t get to price gouge anymore OR your just a hater in general. Either way, I see nothing constructive about the negative comments, and a lot of speculation without any real facts.

If i use Clorox bleach or a generic brand of bleach - it’s still bleach. Brs kelkwasser or other brands kelkwasser- still kelkwasser. I’m sure one can argue there are impurities or whatever but if it works it works. Period. And ABC reagents work as they are intended to, and about 50% the cost.

In a hobby where everything has such a huge mark up, and everything you do requires a chunk of money, it’s a breath of fresh air to see a company that wants to save a reefer a buck. Just my two cents- and I have about 5,000 more cents now since I ordered these instead of Neptune branded.

they edited my edit all it said was mods edited this ‍‍♂️ I didn’t repeat was was removed. Geez. True colors I guess. Why post the little thing at the bottom saying this was edited and when I write it was edited that gets edited out. So petty

I just ordered my first 6 month supply. I have been using a trident for almost 2 years now. I will update once they come in, looking forward to it for sure. Every dollar you can save right now helps with this inflation we are seeing everywhere.... Expect our own income lol.

My warranty ran out awhile ago no worries here. Plus by the time you need service done it already is out of warranty
Exactly. Only matters when a company actually gives a decent warranty. I worked in the car biz for years, and the reason a car comes w/a 3 yr warranty is that that's when they're designed to start having problems. How many months is the Trident good for? lol (says a Trident owner)

I don’t want to get into this with you but this is a bunch of b.s. No car manufacturer designs their car to start breaking after three years this is completely ridiculous for you to even make the statement. My guess is you where a car salesman
