Has anyone had to have their Trident repaired/replaced? Was it smooth and painless? I've been having inconsistent alk readings so I opened a ticket. It hasnt been very smooth for me and it's looking like I'll have to send it in for repair.

That sucks. I've used mine for a full 2 months now and recently replaced my reagents. No issues here.

Did you try replacing the reagents and re-calibrating?

I have replaced the alk reagent recently since I was out and recalibrated it. Ive had my Trident since May. My issue is that the alk reading will be accurate when a combined test is performed. When performing an alk-only test, the reading will be about 0.1-0.2 higher and, at times, 0.3 higher. Since the accuracy of the alk reading on the trident is 0.05, a variation of 0.1 is normal even if the actual alk value hasnt changed. But 0.2 to 0.3 is definitely not normal.

What test instrument are you comparing the results to and what is the +- on that?

For example:
Hanna's Marine Alkalinity Checker has tolerance of +- 0.3 dKH

So if I measured 8.45 dkH with Apex and Hanna measured 8.29 dkH, that would be within tolerance.

Or perhaps I'm missing the point and your simply getting two wide readings from the Apex, making it appear like alk swing. Try testing alk with a separate device the same time Apex does its test and compare results.

If you're totally convinced it's the Trident then let the manufacturer do their thing.

I use Salifert and has about the same range. Its the Trident itself. For example, when it does a alk-only test, the reading will be 9.62. I perform another alk test 20 minutes afterwards and it'll be 9.25. Thats the extreme. Just looking at my graph right now for 1-day, out of 13 alk tests (2hrs apart) I've had 3 fluctuations greater than .2.

This is what my graph for 1 day looks like.

Are you doing automatic dosing? If so are your dose lines close to the Apex trident input line? Perhaps the testing of alk-only is happening near the time the Alk is being dosed?

I've seen some videos where people add a small power head in their sump to achieve better mix.

Calrx dosing. Dosing line in return pump chamber where theres very minimal chance of sample line picking up any effluent. I had them in the same chamber but moved it to eliminate any chances. This is my graph the last 3 days.
