Trigger Fish Questions.

I have a blue throat and a niger in my reef tank, they eat anything I feed them, they usually hide when my hand goes in unlike some of my other fish. I've kept many different triggers over the years and the only ones that tried to bite me where a large clown, large queen and large blueline, if I had to do anything in the tank I would have to get my wife to poke at them with a piece of wood to keep them away from my hands and arms, they would all draw blood when when they did get a bite in.

My male bluethroat is not aggressive. But he is definitely the biggest "piggie" in my tank.
I have been nailed on the finger twice. But it only started after I went out of town. My tank sitter started hand feeding my trigger. My hands are small & the trigger was trying to be the first to nail that morsel (i.e. - my fingertip).
So if you don't hand feed , then you should be fine.

I had a Picasso trigger Years ago that bit the tip of my son's finger off so I had to get rid of him. soon as my kids get older I might get a new one. I had mine for years and was a cool fish til the incident.

And I just realized you have more than one puffer. Wow. Haha lots of fish there. Really liking what you've got going on!
Thanks.. I have a bunch of triggers and puffers.. I have a 220 with large sump and two other tanks plumbed in. I have a lot of water volume. By the summer going to 265 for the extra foot of space.. I can't do anything custom too much money right now. And thank you...

I have a 5" niger I've had for a year. They're great fish with lots of personality. He eats anything and everything I feed. I only feed frozen and nori. No pellets or flakes. He isn't very aggressive but he doesn't take anything from the other fish either. He likes to grunt and spit water at me when I'm in front of the tank. I think they're one of the under rated fish in our tanks.

I had a blue throat and a niger in a 150 for a while. Loved them! They ate everything I put in there for them to eat (and some things they were not supposed to eat - RIP hermit crab order). For general feeding, they really seemed to love reef frenzy and frozen clams on the half shell (good luck getting the shell away from their caves though). They also went after the daily pellet feedings and Nori.

As far as them attacking, I was only attacked when cleaning near the niger's cave. Otherwise, it would swim up and let me pet it. It was about 6" when velvet took out all my livestock. The size might have contributed to it's friendliness.

Been wanting a blue throat but afraid my maxima clam would end up on the dinner plate. Anyone keep blue throats with tridacna clams?
