I currently have the 36inch ruby trigger sump. I have filter cups instead of socks and the skimmer in the same chamber as the cups. The next section is the refugium. I was thinking about flopping my refugium and the skimmer. I feel like the water in the refugium section is a little more calm possibly making it easier for the skimmer to do its job.

Is there any reason that I shold leave it be or any other reasons I should switch it. My refugium now is just a bio brick and some marine pure bio spheres.

I have no problem with my skimmer in my sapphire sump. I use socks though, I keep my level at 7 in's and skimmer works fine, as my chaeto starts to grow I will raise the level and then u will elevate the skimmer if needed. Pictures r in my build thread if I want to look.

K, I just looked, the ruby is a little different than the sapphire and emerald sumps, does it have alot of turbulance and bubbles in the skimmer area?

No reason not to switch it around. Their Triton series sumps do exactly that. Just have to figure a way to keep the stuff in the fuge from flowing into skimmer area.

Not a lot of turbulence but I figured if it's in the more calm section it might make it a little more efficient

What is making its way into the skimmer section?

Are you planning on adding anything more to your refugium section?

I flipped and modded my Emerald 34 for the Triton method (I stopped Triton though) and I like the fuge in the first section. I also make the water go over the wall of the first chamber to maximize space for the chaeto to grow and this still allows me to adjust the height of the water in the second chamber independently from the first section to match the right skimmer height.
I placed a small piece of acrylic in front of the "trigger" opening of the first chamber to force water up and over the wall.

Yea I plan on adding more algae. As of right now I don't have any down there. There really isn't an issue right now just more of a thought
