I'm getting ready to do a large upgrade on my system and part of it will be a much larger sump and skimmer.

I am leaning towards the trigger systems Triton sump.

The skimmer section according to bulk reef supply is-

Skimmer Section - 14.5" x 8.5"

The vertex 130 reads as-

Footprint: 8.5" x 11"

This is obviously cutting it very close, will this squeeze in, or will it be such a fit that it's touching on both sides. I don't mind a close fit, or even if I have to shave a bit off the base of the skimmer (if that's possible)

Looks like it will be wedged between both sides.

Don't know if you're running Triton, but you could always put the skimmer in the first chamber where the refugium would go. Don't know if the 2nd chamber would be big enough for a fuge for your size tank with Triton then. I was looking at the Triton sumps also, but just because they are bigger and had a bigger skimmer area for me in the 1st chamber.

I have a Vertex 130. The dimensions quoted are major dimensions. The foot print is not a rectangle so you can position it on a slight diagonal and it should fit. If any part of it touches a side, use a silicone trivet as a sound absorber you can find at Walmart. Great skimmer by the way when you figure out how to regulate the airflow during break-in.

I would agree if it was the sides of the sump that is the problem. Then an angle would work. However, in this situation, it's the area between 2 chambers that's short.

Maybe they added the pump nozzle sticking out as part of the dimensions, but being the skimmer and sump are the exact same dimensions, it comes down to if you want to chance it. Because once it's opened, most places won't take it back.

I'm currently up grading my sump and was having the same questions about the skimmer section then I fund the trigger crystal 30. Its the bare bone sump with a nice size skimmer section.

Make a template of the actual shape and experiment.

I just got my trigger 44 yesterday and had to modify my older vertex IN skimmer for it to fit. As soon as I can afford to I'm gonna upgrade to a life reef, much smaller footprint . he said he can do custom Colors so it'll match the sump.

Nice! It is quite the sump, it seems trigger does have smaller than normal skimmer compartments compare to other sump. I think for now because of my small bioload I will just keep running my old reef cotopus 110 and upgrade down the road if I need to.

ye I'm pretty stoked it's tight but it's kinda fun figuring out where to put every thing I'm thinking the heaters will go i the 1st compartment not quite decided where to put reactors yet. Brs sold over 20 of those sumps in one day so I'm sure there's gonna be a lot of people coming up with creative solutions

I fit a octopus 202s in my Triton 44 sump it is tight but it fits there's a little manipulation to get it in but got it.

Just squeezed my vertex 150 in the first camber of ruby 30 today. Having hard time connecting the pump to the body in the chamber otherwise would not fit.
