Trigger Tail Attacked?

I noticed my trigger's (Sargasso) tail looked like it was torn this morning. The last couple days have been super busy, so I don't know if this is new this morning vs the last 2 days or so, but I don't remember this earlier in the week. This looks more like trauma than disease correct? The rest of him looks totally fine.
He's been in the tank for a while now (couple months) and haven't had any issues. Everything in the tank is QTed with TTM, Prazi and Metro and inverts do a fishless 76 day QT. He's the biggest fish in there, but there are also a regal angel, purple tang, and naso tang of good size.

As is always the case, I noticed this as I went to feed him right before we leave for a weekend trip....

Hopefully you get some better responses here but I'm not so sure that's trauma. That caudal fin looks pretty symmetrically affected. I would think something traumatic might leave a single jagged wound. My concern would be something bacterial (fin rot)... but I'm purely speculating based on the photo and assuming the worst.

+1 there is definetly a bacterial infection going on there. Most likely infected after initial trauma/wound on his tail . Have you noticed any aggression? You'll need to pull him out and treat trifecta to address the bacterial infection and allow him to heal. Kana + metro + furan2 in water column for 2 weeks.
